BIG MOVE: Jill Granoff Becomes CEO of Public Company

Jill Granoff has joined Kenneth Cole Productions Inc as chief executive officer of the company and a member of the company’s board of directors, effective May 5th. Granoff, who has been Claiborne's executive vice president of direct brands, will take over day-to-day responsibilities from Kenneth Cole, who will give up his 25 year-old-title as ceo while retaining his roles as chairman and chief creative officer. Granoff will report to Cole.

Granoff was president and chief operating officer of Victoria`s Secret Beauty, a division of Limited Brands. Prior to that, she was senior vice president, strategic planning, finance and information systems for Estee Lauder Inc. Granoff began her career as a management consultant in the strategic planning practice at A.T. Kearney Inc.

She earned $1.4 million in 2007 at Claiborne, but said that the lure of being the ceo of a public company was too good to pass up. At Kenneth Cole, Granoff will assume primary responsibility for domestic and international operations including the Company's retail, wholesale, and licensing businesses and the related support functions.

In order to achieve it, according to a recent survey commissioned by Intuit,  37% of women entrepreneurs wish they could clone themselves!  The rest dream about fewer late nights and early mornings at the office, and more family time.  Wishful thinking is quite popular. Pew Research Center reported that 60% of working mom’s aspire to a part-time job. For others, starting their own business is a way to achieve stimulation while also having flexibility and balance.

In honor of Mother’s Day here are a few inspiring statistics:

  • 70% of women started their own business because of their personal passion --  not solely to pay the bills
  • 95% of women business owners would do it again if they could go back.
  • 64% of women-owned small businesses have weathered a recession and 93% expect to grow despite the slowing economy
  • If they weren’t running their business, 55% would want to be notable humanitarians  --  5% would like to be rock stars!
